Music Appreciation Overview for 2005

This year we will be listening to music and/or reading a biography for a selected group of composers.  We will be covering composers from different eras in the following schedule:

January - March cover the Baroque period
April and May cover the Classical period
June - September cover the Romantic period
October - December cover the Modern period

  • Each month listen to some music for the 2 selected composers.  Some of the best works of each composer will be listed.  Use your public library for finding music.  Naxos cds are also a good inexpensive choice if you are looking to purchase some cds for your collection.
  • Each month you can also read a biography or two for most of the composers chosen.
Additionally, you are welcome to listen to music for other composers in each era (time period) as you wish.  Note:  A favourite piece of music of Katrina's is "The Moldau" by Smetna.  It isn't listed in the course below but worth listening to when you reach the Romantic period.
