Home & Family Overview for 2006

Readings for Home & Family

We will be reading 4 wonderful books this year.  Two of the books are spread out over the year:  The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families and Mothers of the Prophets.  The other 2 books will be read consecutively.  We hope these books will help us as mothers and also impact our family life positively.  In addition to the 4 books, you will also find articles to read, 1 per month.

Emergency Preparedness

We feel it would be good to focus on our emergency preparedness this year.  The goal we have set for the group is to work on adding a 3 month supply to our current food storage &/or emergency supplies.  So for example... if you are starting the year with no storage, you would ideally have a 3 month supply by the end of the year.  If you already have a 6 month supply you would have 9 months and so on.  You can also work to have a complete 72 hour kit for each family member.  We are each in different circumstances but we can all do something to improve, even if just a little.  The Provident Living website by the church has a lot of resources and helps for getting started:  Food Storage and Emergency Preparedness at Provident Living

Home Organization

A happy home is an organized home.  Organization can take on many different forms.  You will know when your home feels organized to you.  Post to the list your organization goals and report on your progress on a monthly basis.  When we work together to motivate and inspire, wonderful results happen.  You will find a list of possible resources above (under Optional Additional Resources).  Choose the method that will work for you.  You may have to try all of them before you find a method that works.  Be patient.  Organizing a family is not an easy task.

Notebooks

You will want to keep one or more notebooks for recording new knowledge, preparedness plans, cleaning schedules, and so on.
