Education Overview for 2009

1. We are reading Volume 1 of The Original Homeschooling Series by Charlotte M. Mason this year.  Record your favorite ideas/quotes and also jot down plans for implementation in your notebook. 

2.  Read the monthly assignment from the following books:

  • The One Minute Teacher by Spencer Johnson, M.D. & Constance Johnson, M.Ed. (January and February)
  • In My Father's House by Corrie Ten Boom  (March and April)
  • When Children Love to Learn: A Practical Application of Charlotte Mason's Philosophy for Today by Elaine Cooper  (May and June)
  • Righteous Influence: What Every Leader Should Know by L. Tom Perry (July and August)
  • The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home by Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise (September to December)
  • The Well-Educated Mind: A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had by Susan Wise Bauer (December... and into 2010)

 Add any notes, thoughts and impressions from your readings to your notebook.

3. Read an education article each month for enrichment/discussion  It is recommended that you choose an article from the Parents' Review.  Come and share with the list what you have read.

4. Keep a notebook.  You can develop this notebook however you wish, make it work for you.  You might like to have sections for your different children and write down ideas from your studies that will be beneficial to each child.
